Orient Expands the Diver Design Series with Its First GMT Model and Striking New Dial Variations Orient has launched the Diver Design GMT in four regular models and one limited-edition model of 4,000 pieces. This marks the first introduction of a dual time zone function to the Diver Design Series*1, an iconic range representing Orient’s Sports Collection. Four new Diver Design models with fresh colour palettes enhancing the bar indices dial have also been added. The new Diver Design GMT merges the diver design with a GMT function for the first time in the series. By utilising both the standard hour hand and an additional hour hand that completes one rotation every 24 hours, the GMT function allows two time zones to be displayed simultaneously. This function first appeared in wristwatches in the mid‑20th century, when civil aviation began expanding globally, and it quickly became popular among airline pilots and crew traveling across time zones, as well as global travellers. The GMT function of the movement developed for this new model adopts one of the earliest mechanisms devised in the 1950s. Specifically, the 24‑hour hand (GMT hand), which always operates in conjunction with the 12‑hour hand does not have an independent adjustment feature and can be converted to display a second time zone by operating the rotating bezel. This allows the local time at a travel destination to be shown with the regular hour hand, while the GMT hand can be used to display home time or the time in another location.

The uni-directional rotating bezel with 24-hour scale features 120 notches with a smooth clicking feel for comfortable operation, while the two-toned bezel display, colourcoordinated to match the dial, gives the watch a refined impression. The dial inherits the Diver Design’s robust, signature diver design with elements such as bar indices and a bold arrow-shaped hour hand both with high-intensity Luminous Light, as well as a long diamondshaped minute hand with a tip that reaches the minute scale.

Designed for everyday versatility, both the Diver Design GMT and Diver Design feature a screw-down crown and screw caseback for 20-bar water resistance, along with a robust bracelet made from high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L). The automatic (with hand winding) bi-directional winding in-house movement, allowing the watch to be fully wound in a short amount of time and offering stable accuracy of +25 seconds to –15 seconds per day, is another feature of Diver Design’s appeal.
